Bay Chat News Article:
Team Members Keep up the Pace

Pacemakers Candice Patterson and Charles Sands, M.D with
Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio at the American Heart Walk.

While some team members retired their walking shoes
following the American Heart Walk, one special group
continues to remain active in community support and
fundraising for health-related issues. The ER
Pacemakers, a group of EMTs, paramedics, RNs,
respiratory therapist and Charles Sand, M.D, banded
together in 2004 to prove "to the community of
Tampa Bay that the SJH Emergency Department is staff
by educated, compassionate and motivated people."
according to team captain Candice Patterson.

Together the Pacemakers have participated in marathons,
triathlons, 5K and 10K events, including the Susan G.
Komen Race for the Cure and the American Heart Walk.
They have raised more than $6,500 for various events
through direct donations, t-shirts and bake sales.

SJH ER is the second busiest Emergency Room in the state
of Florida, treating trauma patients from Hillsborough
and the surrounding counties. Many staff members
manage stress by maintaining healthy lifestyles that include
regular exercise, such as walking and running.
